Before, I'm already confessing that I'm plagiarizing, or already being provoked a little by Danielle Laudino. Founder of Instituto Laudino, who signs the column “Causando por lá” on the Um Social website (www.umsocial.com.br).
What's your cause? Does it really move you? And is it producing changes? So, is the cause causing you causing you?
Causing alone is difficult. So why not join other causes? Lack of time? What if it doesn't depend on your time, but on your donation?
Here comes the Day of Giving, November 30th (in 2021). And its purpose is to remember that solidarity can be a counterpoint to “black friday”. Or even it can be a complement to the day of consumption.
The counterpoint stems from the “thanks giving day”, Thanksgiving Day, celebrated in the USA. If there is a day to consume in your own interest, there is also another “of socially conscious consumption”, to give thanks, in prose and action, and to spend with the other more disadvantaged.
So, whether this day will be a counterpoint or a complement will depend on you and your solidarity. It will depend on whether your cause is causing you.
Edmund Burke, an 18th century Irish philosopher, “who postulated the organic growth of societies, rather than violent reforms”, said that “no one makes a greater mistake by doing nothing because he can only do a little”. This speech comes in handy here in the provocation made.
Can't you much? But can you a little? So get to work, or in your pocket, and make your cause happen. There are many entities, movements and social initiatives waiting for your donation.
