Since 1985, the United Nations (UN) has celebrated International Volunteer Day on December 5th. The date seeks to encourage volunteer activities around the world.
Volunteers are those people who have a civic spirit and an interest in helping to build a better society, dedicating part of their time to social work, without receiving any kind of remuneration for it.
In its latest survey, from 2018, the IBGE pointed out that 7.2 million Brazilians practiced some type of volunteering. With the pandemic, actions of this nature gained greater scale and urgency around the world, with the main objective of mitigating the social and economic effects of the crisis on the most vulnerable populations.
The Third Sector, whose strength lies in volunteering, exists because volunteers exist. There is always the crowd for more people to join this current of citizenship, fraternity and empathy with the genuine interest of just making a better world.
On this date, we suggest reading the article “Volunteering and the Third Sector” related to this theme, published in Revista ES Brasil by Robson Melo – Executive President of Fundaes: https://esbrasil.com.br/voluntariado-e-o-terceiro-setor/
