According to the report Making Peace with Nature by UNEP – United Nations Environment Program – published earlier this year, transforming social and economic systems means improving our relationship with nature, understanding its value and putting it at the center of decisions. This moves Fundaes.

World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, is one of the most important international days for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, the event has become the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with the involvement of millions of people from all over the world to protect the planet.

2022 is a historic milestone for the global environmental community. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, recognized as the first international meeting on the environment. The 1972 Stockholm Conference spurred the formation of environmental ministries and agencies around the world and initiated a series of new global agreements to collectively protect the environment. Furthermore, it was where the goals of poverty reduction and environmental protection came together, paving the way for the Sustainable Development Goals. At the Stockholm Conference, the concept of World Environment Day was institutionalized, whose first commemoration took place in 1973.

People can be drivers of change with the support they give to companies and governments. The actions of these larger entities can have a transformative impact and have the ability to establish sustainable consumption and production practices for decades to come.
